1. Wear two pair of socks when hiking - but not cotton (unless you can afford proper hiking socks).
2. Rub washing up liquid on the bottom of billies before using them on an open fire.
3. Add 10% water to meths when using it for Trangia fuel.
4. Don’t put a tent away when it is still wet.
5. Check that you have all the poles, guys and pegs before you take a tent out.
6. Weigh gas bottles before using them.
7. Chop twice as much wood as you think you need.
8. Keep a bag of tinder and kindling in your tents each night, so it will be dry in the morning.
9. Do not have food in your tent.
10. Roll the sides of your tent up (air your tent) every day.
11. Do not camp under trees.
12. Do not camp near moss (mosquitoes).
13. Silver birch bark burns well.
14. No lit lanterns in tents.
15. No cookers in tents.
